Museum Stretch Goal SMASHED! Next Goal Revealed! + Closer Look: The World of Cloudscape
over 3 years ago – Sat, Jun 26, 2021 at 05:53:27 PM

We did it! Only one day later and we hit the first stretch goal!

I continue to be amazed at the support everyone is showing for Cloudscape! I'm thrilled to be announcing the next stretch goal already!

Next up is the Farming Expansion! I would love to add even more crops to the game, along with more tools and upgrades to make farming more interesting and challenging. Since the game isn't tied to a daily schedule system, crops grow in "real time" meaning you can plant and harvest crops at 4am if you want, and it also means that tending to them can be a bit trickier! I would like to add tools such as a magnifying glass which when used, will give you a detailed breakdown of any crop, including the soil quality, any enhancements applied to it and if it needs watered.

You will be able to see this at a glance simply by standing near a crop with the tool equipped.  Crops will also adhere more to their real world counterparts. For example, you can grow a Tomato in the Summer or even the Spring. In Spring, the Tomato will grow slower as the soil isn't quite as warm. Many crops like this can be grown across multiple seasons!

------

This is the first in a series of updates where I will go into more detail about various features in the game! Please feel free to leave comments and ask questions!

The World of Cloudscape

The game consists of many various islands to discover and explore. Some of these islands are almost entirely hand crafted, with some procedural/random elements tossed in on top as seasoning. Other islands are more procedural generated and completely unique to each playthrough of the game. Each island can have its own biome, from tropical to desert to cold and snowy. Islands will also have their own unique fruits, forage goodies and creatures to discover, along with possibly hidden treasures, caverns and dungeons!

Weather and seasons also persist throughout each island, with the biome type dictating the kind of weather an island will receive. Weather has an impact on many plants, animals and more. Things continue to grow and change even when you aren't on an island! You could leave an island when it has sparse trees and vegetation, only to return a year later to find things have overgrown and there's now a lush forest!

My goal is to make each island worth visiting and exploring, which means I'm going to do my best to make sure there's always something new to discover on a new island, and they won't simply be empty and badly generated but instead will contain a wealth of interesting things.

As for your own island, you'll eventually have the power to change the land itself! You can raise and lower terrain to create rivers, divots or cliffs. You can decorate your island however you'd like, and grow any number of crops. You can even bring vegetation from other islands to grow on your own island, creating a rich ecosystem of diverse plants and animals.

You'll be able to change every detail, down to the flower and grass detailing and pebbles on the ground. Get creative! I want to provide you the tools to make your island really your own.

Traveling the world is another story entirely. At first you won't have any access to travel quickly or travel to other islands. But in time and with some ingenuity, you will find ways to travel faster and farther than ever before. Unlocking new modes of transportation will let you reach entirely new areas of the game!

Have any questions regarding the world, procedural generation or the islands in general? Feel free to comment below and let me know!

Over 100% Funded!!! Revealing the first stretch goal!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 24, 2021 at 01:47:46 AM

Thank you everyone, we did it!

We're now over 100% funded! I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone once again and announce the first stretch goal for the campaign! I have some exciting stretch goals lined up and would love to get these things added into the game to make it even better!

First stretch goal is the Museum addition! With this goal reached, we can add a great museum into the game where you as the player can find and donate interesting things for the villagers to admire! I plan to make things a little more interesting than the typical "fill this entire empty museum by yourself" gameplay, by introducing a bit of friendly rivalry into the mix!

Other villagers will also have the opportunity to donate things to the museum, so not only does it not rest entirely on your shoulders, but you also have a bit of competition to get things donated first! You will get rewards based on your donations but don't worry, even if a villager beats you to the punch, you will still be able to donate an item you haven't donated yet. There will just be added incentives for donating new and original things!

I will do my best to make the museum a more fun and interesting part of the game and hopefully not stressful or making players feel like it's a chore instead of a fun addition.

Help us hit this goal of $65,000! We have more fun goals to come!

Shout-Outs:

Another shout-out for today! Loddlenaut! This adorable survival game has won me over with it's fun and vibrant art style. :)

About the Game:

Loddlenaut is a creature-raising survival game that takes place on an ocean planet. Play as an interstellar custodian sent to clean up the pollution left behind by a mysterious corporation while befriending cute axolotl-like creatures called "loddles." Explore an open-world alien ocean, upgrade your tools to unlock new areas in the world, and build a cozy home base for you and your loddles!

87% funded in 24 hours! THANK YOU!!!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 24, 2021 at 01:46:41 AM

Wow what a hectic 24 hours! I'm blown away by the tremendous amount of support I've received so far! I'm doing my best to thank everyone who comments but I just want to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone right here for all of the support and kind messages I've received!

It's always really stressful releasing your creation into the wild, especially when it's a Kickstarter where you're needing to raise money and have no idea what will happen.  I'm really overwhelmed at the moment and I'm still trying to catch up on all the messages and e-mails and things I'm receiving, but I just wanted to take a moment to write this update.

I also want to let everyone know that you should stay tuned to these updates as I plan to make pretty frequent updates throughout the campaign, where I will discuss more details about various aspects of the game with everyone just to help clarify some things and paint a better picture of where I'm hoping to take the game.

Later today I'll make the first update regarding the World of Cloudscape so be sure to check that out!

Shout-Outs:

I would now like to take a moment to give a big shout-out to another Kickstarter campaign that is reaching its final hours...

Wanderlost! I'm sure if you've been on Kickstarter recently you've probably seen this game at the top of the list already, but if not, you're in for a treat! If you like what Cloudscape has to offer, I think you may also like Wanderlost! It's a charming looking zombie-survival game that focuses more on the survival and base-building side of things. They are currently in the last day of their campaign so help them finish even stronger if you can!

Wanderlost Gameplay

"Survive then thrive in the cutest apocalypse of all time! Gather materials, craft diverse weapons and tools, build and fortify a shelter, explore a massive world filled with the secrets of a dead civilization and, whatever you do, stay clear of the zombies."

Go check out Wanderlost!

Once again thanks for all of the support in just 24 hours! I'm looking forward to what the next 696 hours bring!
